SUMMARY:Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
DESCRIPTION:LivingWorks ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Bunbury\nAPPLIED SUICIDE INTERVENTION SKILLS TRAINING is a 2-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. \nParticipants learn to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and respond in ways that help increase their immediate safety and link them to further help. \nASIST aims to enhance a caregiver’s abilities to help a person at risk avoid suicide. \nIt is intended that ASIST participants will be better prepared to: \n\nReflect on how attitudes and beliefs about suicide affect their intervention role;\nDiscuss suicide with a person at risk in a direct manner;\nBuild a collaborative approach to intervention focused on safe outcomes;\nProvide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in a way that meets their individual safety needs;\nIdentify the key elements of an effective safety plan and the action required to implement it;\nAppreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community;\nMake a commitment to improving community resources; and\nRecognise that suicide prevention is broader than suicide first aid and includes life-promotion and self-care for caregivers.\n\nThe workshop helps people apply suicide first aid in many settings – with family\, friends\, co-workers and team mates as well as more formal helping roles. For further information\, please refer to the ASIST website: www.livingworks.com.au/Training-Programs.html#ASIST

SUMMARY:Porongurup Festival
DESCRIPTION:Originally named The Porongurup Wine Festival\, the Porongurup Festival showcases some distinct Porongurup wine labels\, along with live music\, food stalls\, craft\, children’s activities\, wine tastings\, and more. \nA day of live music\, superb local wines\, numerous food stalls and entertainment for the whole family. There will be cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs and the annual Grape Stomp competition is always hotly contested. Kids activities include Bouncy Castle\, cup cake decorating\, train rides and face painting. An excellent day out in the beautiful setting of Karridale\, with its stunning backdrop of the Porongurup Ranges. \nFrom humble beginnings\, the first festival in 1989 consisted of one stall promoting the then newly vintaged wine of the region with under 150 people attending. The winery producers grew in number; accommodation businesses joined in to help the organisation as we changed venues each year. \nThe festival has grown over the years\, becoming a popular and iconic regional event\, attracting around 1800 people\, showcasing some of Porongurup’s award winning cool-climate wines\, as well as signature events such as the grape stomp\, wine masterclasses and cooking demonstrations adding to the celebrations. 2019 saw the addition of the local bar and distillery. \nContinuing to grow and develop\, a wide range of members\, community and volunteers have joined to host the festival.

SUMMARY:South West Health Research Forum
DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen circumstances\, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the South West Health Research Forum. While we have had a positive attendance response\, our decision to postpone this event is in response to the evolving Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation understanding that many clinicians are facing increasing demand.  A new date will be set soon. \nThe South West Health Research Forum offers a unique experience of inspiration\, learning and networking for those undertaking or interested in pursuing health research projects to address emerging rural and remote health issues in the south-west Western Australia. \nAbout the Forum \nThe Lishman Health Foundation has collaborated with Rural Health West\, Edith Cowan University\, St John of God Bunbury Hospital\, WA Country Health Service and WA Primary Health Alliance to facilitate a South West Health Research Forum. \nIn a first for the South West\, the forum will bring together research leaders\, researchers and health practitioners from Australian universities and South West clinical settings to share current rural and regional health research  activity and explore potential opportunities to grow health research in the region. \nWe are fortunate to have Professor Gary Geelhoed\, Executive Director WA Health Translation Network as the lead facilitator for the forum.  Clinical Professor Alan James\, Chair Busselton Population Medical Research Institute\, will present along with other researchers from WA Universities\, Monash University and the University of Newcastle. \nThe forum will provide the opportunity for delegates to learn\, mentor\, contribute and network. \nHealth practitioners and researchers currently undertaking research have the opportunity to present a printed poster at the forum\, and to engage attendees in rich discussion of their research during lunch and afternoon tea.  Please see full details on the website. \n
