SUMMARY:Person-Centred Dementia Care Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Communicating\, interacting and supporting a person living with dementia can be challenging particularly when the person is ill and is interacting outside of a familiar environment. \nIn this session we will spend time discovering the experience of living with dementia and ideas about personhood and identity. We will also explore person-centred approaches to care and practice some techniques for positive interaction. We will also consider the impact of dementia on informal caregivers and their role when the person living with dementia is ill. \nIn this session we will: \n\nReview dementia types and characteristics as a life-limiting condition\nExplore what it means to be a person\, implications for independence and stigma\nConsider the impact of illness on the person living with dementia\nReflect on informal caregivers’ role and need for support\nLearn the principles of person -and relationship-centred care\n\nThe workshop will be presented by Davina Porock\, founding Director of the Centre for Research in Aged Care at ECU’s School of Nursing and Midwifery. Her research program focuses on living and dying well in residential aged care\, with a particular interest in person-centred practice and recognised dying. \nThe cost of this workshop is $22. Afternoon tea will be provided. \nRegistrations are essential by following this link. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Using ultrasound to guide cannulation
DESCRIPTION:This course intends to teach healthcare professionals in the practical skill of using point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in a  non-invasive process prior to venous access cannulations. The hands-on half-day workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Ulrich Steinwandel who has been working in haemodialysis units in Europe and Australia for over twenty years and has broad experience using this technique successfully when cannulating patients who are attending haemodialysis to establish a vascular access in arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). \nWhen:   Saturday\, 11 March 2023 \nWhere:  Edith Cowan University\, Bunbury \nTime:     9.00am to 1.00pm \nCost:       $319.00 \nFor more information on this workshop and to register visit the link below: \nhttps://ecu.geniussis.com/Registration.aspx \n
