    Communicating, interacting and supporting a person living with dementia can be challenging particularly when the person is ill and is interacting outside of a familiar environment. In this session we will spend time discovering the experience of living with dementia and ideas about personhood and identity. We will also explore person-centred approaches to care and practice some techniques for positive interaction.   • Using ultrasound to guide cannulation

    This course intends to teach healthcare professionals in the practical skill of using point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in a  non-invasive process prior to venous access cannulations. The hands-on half-day workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Ulrich Steinwandel who has been working in haemodialysis units in Europe and Australia for over twenty years and has broad experience using this technique successfully when cannulating patients who are attending haemodialysis to establish a vascular access in arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs).   • Basic Vascular Access Cannulation

    This basic vascular access cannulation workshop is designed for nurses who intend to perform peripheral venous vascular access cannulations in patients with the purpose to either withdraw venous bloods (blood sampling) and / or to insert a peripheral intravenous catheter  (PIVC) to establish a vascular access pathway for intravenous fluid supply in a fluid depleted patient or for the administration of intravenous medication.
