The Problem
Three of the top 16 HAIs in Australia are directly related to surgery: HAIs; unplanned theatre returns (often SSI and/or haemorrhage); and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Effectively addressing these requires integrating multiple siloed data streams to reliably deliver high-quality surgical care, operational theatre excellence, risk reduction, and effective training. Unfortunately, data from these disparate systems are not integrated, and must be manually collated and analysed for meaningful insights — an arduous, expensive, and time-intensive task.
The Approach
A patient having surgery is on a trip; a continuum from the preoperative process until they have healed. Comprehensively understanding and improving the surgical care continuum with a theatre-only approach is like trying to explain the plot of a 2 hour movie by viewing a single frame. A complete Digital Surgery platform addresses the entire arc of a surgical patient’s journey.
